New EV Features: Wireless Charging, Autonomous Driving & More
    Interesting Finds

Electric vehicles (EVs) have made a massive leap but the carmakers are still focused more on further technological innovations. Let's dive into five future EV trends that will not only change our cars but also the entire transportation sector.

    1. Autonomous Driving

Fully autonomous cars have started to roll out, with Tesla’s Robotaxi being the first. Although limited in number, Tesla’s auto-driving taxis with unsupervised Full-Self-Driving (FSD) developments show we are on the right path. A lot of new EVs already have modern driver-assistance systems (ADAS) that allow the vehicle to drive on the highway and park automatically.

Other leading companies like Waymo and Cruise are also consistently working to further improve this technology. Still, a research report from GlobalData says that fully self-driving cars, where no human intervention is required, will likely not be present on the market until around 2035. The benefits of auto-driving include a much safer driving experience and more convenience.

    2. Affordability & Diversity

Most of us would agree that high prices have been the main reason for the slow EV adoption but this is rapidly changing now. Local car companies have started to manufacture affordable EV choices for daily use. For example, the stylish Mini Cooper SE starts at around $31,900 or a decent Nissan LEAF may cost you about $29,000.

These affordable prices are due to the lowered production cost, affordable batteries and subsidies provided by governments. As costs come down gradually, more people will find EVs to be a viable option which will then make the shift to clean, sustainable transportation faster.

    3. Improved User Experience

The future user experience of the EVs focuses solely on smooth connection and innovative characteristics. It goes way beyond the traditional touchscreen infotainment systems and old, cumbersome interfaces. Mercedes-Benz's EQS, for one, uses augmented reality to show directions on the windshield. Audi's e-tron models use virtual side-mirrors with cameras rather than simple mirrors to improve visibility. Byton's M-Byte even registers the driver's biometrics, monitors vital health signs and then adjusts the settings based on the driver’s preferences.

Such developments lead to a custom, user-friendly driving setting that will keep improving with time.

    4. Eco-Friendly Manufacturing

EV sustainability has developed to cover not only the operation of electric vehicles but also their production. For example, BMW's new plant in Debrecen, Hungary has set a goal to become a 100% renewable energy-based production facility. Tesla's Gigafactories heavily rely on solar power and recycle and reuse almost 100% of their process wastewater. By primarily focusing on clean manufacturing, EVs' carbon footprint will be reduced considerably before they even arrive on the roads.

    5. Wireless Charging

Just think of charging your EV without ever plugging it in. Firms such as WiTricity or Plugless Power are working to develop inductive charging pads that will start charging your car instantly when you park over them. This innovation can change the game for urban setups and public transportation where fast and easy charging is necessary. However, this can only be feasible if both the infrastructure and the vehicles' charging ability are compatible.

These trends have the potential to make EVs not only more efficient and accessible but also more useful in our everyday lives. The electric vehicle's tomorrow is looking very bright - and as green as never before.
